Trust Me I’m a Vet Tech: Let’s Play a Game

Well, it was my turn to write our post for the series in October.  Obviously that didn’t happen.  I wanted to write it, but A. I forgot what I was supposed to write about, but that’s ok because so did Unconventional Mommy Tails (which might be proof that we are making this crap up as we go) and B. I developed a really severe sinus infection and have been bed ridden dying with it.  So, I think it’s excusable that this post is late.  And also, funny.  Funny cancels out the late.

So, instead of writing about anything particularly useful, I thought it might be fun to so give you a tiny glimpse into the mind of a Vet Tech and the into the field we work in.

Being in the medical field, our lives are filled with short hand, Latin and Greek (literal Latin and Greek words) and ridiculous math.  Being in the ER world, all of that is stuff that we have to do on the fly.  So, we have learned to not just use abbreviations that are proper to the medical world, but to abbreviate everyday stuff and things that we think are funny.  And funny abbreviations and phrases keep us going on stressful days.

ER Techs have to have a good sense of humor and we also have a slightly messed up sense of humor.  We have to survive day in and day out in a truly intense and incredibly stressful environment and sometimes a good laugh is all that carries you through.

I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my favorite things we say and abbreviations we use and to have you all guess what the definition is in the comments.  The person who gives us the biggest laugh is the winner.  This time around you get a gold star for the day, but this might be something that yields an even better prize in the future so it’s best to get the practice in!

PS.  Those with animal or vet training or medical training shouldn’t guess.  You will likely know what these are and it’s more fun for those who don’t know to tell us what they think.

  1. Boxing a Cat Down
  2. Drop Them
  3. Rumping Sheep
  4.  PITA (an abbreviation)
  5. Strawberry Milkshake

Guess away my friends!  I can only guess how weird these all must sound and we are looking forward to your guesses and first impressions!
