Marriage is Worth The Fight

Fall in love My Dearest Husband,

There have been times when we have both thrown our hands up in surrender to our frustrations.  There have been times when we have both questioned our devotion, our hearts wanting to continue to love each other, but our minds unable to hear that whisper through the shouting.  There have been times when I know I have wanted to leave.

But here I stand, nearly seven years after we first met, still lying awake a night waiting for you to call when you are on a mission.  Here I stand, still waiting impatiently for you to return home from work, so that I may tell you about my day.  Here I stand, still fluttering at the thought of you, still sighing at the breath of you, still smiling at the touch of you.

There was never a time that we promised this would be easy, only times when we said it would be worth it.  And five years after we said “I do,” we still look at each other and know that through the rough times, through the distance, through the trials, and through the rain, we are walking hand in hand together to the other side.

I cannot promise, nor can I ever promise, that we will not struggle.  I will never be able to say that I will not be despairingly angry, or frustrated, or hurt.  But I can say that I will love you even when it is a struggle to do so.  I will love you, even when you are struggling to love me.  And I will love you and strain to hear my heart through the shouting, because marriage is not easy, but devotion, loyalty, and undying love are well worth the fight.
