Remember That Time The USMC Ruined Everything?

We Milspouses have all been there.  We make plans, we have a perfect day set up and the military changes everything.

The Boy and I took the day off work, we had a Groupon to use and a lovely afternoon planned.  Needless to say, we missed the Groupon and I’m sitting on the couch typing this up while The Hubs is on the phone taking care of USMC stuff.  Isn’t it bad enough that every night after work he spends his evenings doing just that?  Must they also ruin our day off?

In light of this happening (again) I’d like to share a little story with you.

Last year I was redoing our spare room.  I had it all painted and we had purchased some very nice extra tall bookshelves that I was going to put together and bolt to the wall.  The effect was going to be floor to ceiling bookshelves along one wall.  Lovely.

So, I put together the three giant bookcases and stood them against the wall.  We had one odd small one that I was debating also putting along the wall, or putting it somewhere else.  Those of you who have been reading my blog for vary long may well remember the case of A Girl VS Bookcase in which the score was Bookcase: 1 A Girl: 0.

Yep, you guessed it, the smaller one fell over on top of me while I was bending down to pick something up.  It slammed into me and busted up my arm. It immediately began to swell.  The Boy came up to help me and we soaked my hand in ice water to get my wedding rings off.  I iced my arm but couldn’t move it and we were worried it was broken.

We went to the ER to get it x-rayed.  I checked in, was triaged and put into a room.  On the way to the room The Boy got a call.  Something that couldn’t wait and had to be dealt with right away.  In other words: Remember the time I got left in the ER so The Boy could deal with USMC stuff?

Yep.  I sat in the ER icing my possibly broken arm while my husband, the Marine, was outside making military related phone calls.

Man, sometimes, the military ruins everything.
